MLBC Webinar Series

MLBC Webinar Series

A series of five webinars hosted by ICM. The series will bring together ICM member associations, partner organisations, midwives, midwifery educators and regulators. We will share and discuss the findings of a research project about midwife-led birthing centres in low- and middle-income countries.

The project aimed to find out ‘what works and why’ when establishing and operating midwife-led birthing centres in low- and middle-income settings. This research provides evidence to support efforts to scale up this model of care.

The research team will share insights from a global scoping review and a case study covering four countries: Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Africa and Uganda. There will be opportunities to discuss the conclusions and implications of the findings for these and other countries.

The live sessions will take place weekly, starting on October 17th 2023 at 10AM GMT.

The webinars will be led by members of the research team, and each session will focus on one element of the research, as follows:

17 October – a global overview based on the scoping review and survey
24 October – what is needed for success part 1: financing and governance
31 October – what is needed for success part 2: quality and collaboration
7 November – cost-effectiveness of this model of care
21 November* - scaling up this model of care

* Please note there will be no webinar on 14 November.

All sessions offer French and Spanish interpretation and we will record each session and make available for later download.
