New Board Member for Americas
The International Confederation of Midwives is pleased to announce the appointment of Irene G. Dela Torre as the new Board Member for the Americas region. She is replacing Board Member Frances Ganges, who has been appointed as Chief Executive of the ICM.
Irene is a midwife educator and practitioner. Currently she is the educational program director at the University of Puerto Rico and also director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Development of Midwifery Services and Education. She continues to attend homebirths.
Born in the Philippines, where she received her BSN, she migrated to the US where she obtained her MS in MCH and certificate in midwifery. She has travelled extensively both personally and professionally and continues to promote and support midwifery and women’s health.
The ICM Board members represent the four regions and oversee the ICM secretariat in the implementation of the strategic directions, liaison with global and regional partners, support of ICM Midwives Associations, and oversight of project development and management.
