ICM works across the world in partnership with many other international organisations, to strengthen midwifery globally. Informed opinion is increasingly acknowledging that strengthening midwifery, especially in less developed countries, is essential to realising the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) 4&5 that target reducing maternal, neonatal and infant deaths.

ICM has developed global competencies and standards for the midwifery profession worldwide. Read more.
Position Statements

ICM’s position statements describe the beliefs and principles of the Confederation, along with guidance for its members, with regard to specific situations which may relate to the midwifery profession, maternal and newborn health, or broader issues where midwives or those they care for are involved. Some statements also set out guidance for the Confederation’s own activities.

Core Documents

ICM’s core documents are intended to embody the aims and ethos of the Confederation and contribute to defining aspects of the midwifery profession worldwide. They are unique to the ICM, but applicable at global level. Access ICM core documents here
