WHO: World Health Organizaton

During 2007 WHO completed the development of Global Standards for Initial Nursing and Midwifery Education in response to the World Health Assembly’s call to strengthen the nursing and midwifery profession.  ICM joined other stakeholders, and over a period of 3 years worked collaboratively to implement strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery.  The Global Standards are aimed at professionals for use as a benchmark for enhancing the education of nurses and midwives.  Nursing and midwifery definitions formed the basis of the new standards which will be launched by WHO in 2008.
