Current activities of the Committee fall into three categories:
- Creating communication networks between researchers working in reproductive health and midwifery;
- Maintaining a database of researchers which acts as a source of information and support;
- Reviewing abstracts submitted for peer-review;
- Planning RSC involvement in the next ICM congress;
- Taking part in the discussions to develop an ICM research strategy.
1. Communication networks:
A midwifery discussion list has been established to provide an open forum for discussion on issues relating to research on midwifery and reproductive health. The list aims to create an international network of people who are eager to share information (e.g. workshops, seminars, conferences and new research) and to promote links, collaborative working, joint problem-solving and mutual support. Currently it contains 440 subscribers from 43 countries.
To join the midwifery research list:
The International Confederation of Midwives Research Standing Committee has established the Research Advisory Network, which currently consists of 104 members from 21 different countries. These are: Australia (6), Canada (6), Denmark (2), Finland (2), Germany (6), Iran (2), Ireland (5), Israel (1), Malawi (2), Morocco (1), Netherlands (2), New Zealand (1), Poland (1), Sweden (5), Switzerland (2), Tanzania (1), Tunisia (1), UK (51), USA (4), Zambia (1), Zimbabwe (2).
The Network serves the dual function of facilitating research collaboration among members as well as providing expertise and advice to the ICM and the Research Standing Committee on research issues. For example, the network recently peer reviewed research abstracts for the ICM Triennial Conference in Brisbane. The database of members can be seen under 'Contact the RAN'.
The RSC is looking to develop and expand the Network and we are particularly interested in people who:
* Recognise the importance of research to midwifery and reproductive health generally
* Are professionally active in the area of midwifery and reproductive research
If you fulfill these criteria and would like to join the Network then please select the link 'Join Research Network'
3. RSC involvement in the 2008 ICM congress in Glasgow:
The RSC is also involved in providing a database of reviewers to facilitate peer reviewing of the papers submitted to the research stream for the 2008 congress.
Members of the RSC are part of the Scientific Committee for the next ICM Congress in Glasgow, Scotland in 2008.
